So winter is still hanging around as we still experiencing some cold and rainy conditions in the Cape. But this has not kept us off our bikes. The spring cycle season starts with a bang with the Tour De Worcester in the Boland region and with races almost every weekend we can be assured that everyone will be participating in some of them.
The main goal for me for this season is firstly to get fit then get myself into a better racing category. At the moment I am seeded in group E which is where the average cyclist rides. I must admit I did not concentrate much on my riding the previous season and its showing now. Although I did the Kynsna Cycle Tour in July which is our mid winter classic, I had some mechanical problems which hampered my overall time and position. So I havent really laid off the bike during winter.
I still need to lose some weight and increase my fitness to a point where I can race comfortably. I am riding about 4 days out of the week which I will soon be increasing it further into the season so that I dont burn myself out. The 2 main ride are the Burger Tour and the Double Century.
